The Reedley Pirates
jumped out to a commanding 21-6 first quarter lead and never looked
back in easing to a routine 69-43 victory over the pesky Woodlake
Tigers in the Kingsburg Tournament.. The win gave the Pirates a
perfect 3-0 record in the tournament and a 4-0 record overall.
The scoring began
quietly enough with center Ian Brinkman making a free throw.
Soon afterwards Jon Wallen tallied a bucket on a strong drive to the
bucket. Then Abel Lucca made a clever pass to the alert Brinkman
for another basket. The score stood at 5-0 and the route was on.
Later Pepijn Dekker collected a couple of baskets with some nice
inside moves.
The Pirates suffered
through a sloppy second quarter but still led at the half 38-19.
The Reedley hoopsters increased the margin to 54-24 after three
quarters then took their foot off the accelerator in coasting to the
game's conclusion.
The Pirates were led in
scoring by Jon Wallen who scored 19. Abel Lucca added 17 and
Colin Hofer collected 13 points.
