The Reedley High
Pirates rode Colin Hofer's 22 points and Pepijn Dekker's double digit
rebounding performance to a 55-45 victory over the homestanding McLane
Highlanders. With the win the Pirates moved to 2-0 in NYL action
and 14-2 on the season.
For the second
consecutive game, the Pirates struggled to find their offensive
rhythm. Reedley has relied on the three point shot all season
long but did not connect from beyond the stripe until Hofer sank a
trey with under three minutes left in the third quarter.
The taut affair was
tied at 24 at the half with Reedley assuming a slim 39-37
advantage after three quarters. In the fourth quarter the
Highlanders moved in front 42-41. Then Jon Lepp made a free
throw to tie the game and delivered a nice dish to Jordan Penner who
converted the lay-up, giving the Pirates the lead at 44-42 with 5:30
remaining. It was a lead the Reedley boys would never
relinquish.
McLane was still within
one point at 46-45 with under three minutes to go but the Pirates
sprinted to the finish line, relying on five points by Hofer and four
by Jon Wallen to seal the Highlanders' fate. The ten point
margin was the PIrates' largest lead on the night.
Besides Hofer's 22
points, the Pirates received 10 points from Abel Lucca , eight
from Wallen, and eight from Dekker.
